Food and Civil Supplies Minister Haroon Yusuf said this in the Assembly during a discussion on price rise.
Yusuf said there were no takers for around 18,000 biometric PDS cards prepared by the Department.
It seems there were around 18,000 bogus cards, he said.
The Delhi Government has started the process of issuing bio-metric BPL cards so as to identify “bogus beneficiaries” and streamline the PDS system, he said.
Yusuf had earlier said that the government had decided to issue bio-metric BPL cards to ensure that food articles meant for the BPL families "actually reach them".
