1996 Delhi blast: convicts to open argument today

The Delhi high court would hear today three Kashmiri militants' arguments opposing the death penalty awarded to them for executing the 1996 terror bombing in Lajpat Nagar market that killed 13 people and injured 38.

The Delhi high court would hear on Thursday three Kashmiri militants' arguments opposing the death penalty awarded to them for executing the 1996 terror bombing in Lajpat Nagar market that killed 13 people and injured 38.

A bench of justice S Ravindra Bhat and justice ML Mehta adjourned the matter after the police concluded its final arguments on its plea for confirming the death penalty awarded to the three and for upholding the lesser sentences awarded to their accomplices.

Continuing the argument, Delhi Police Standing Counsel Pawan Sharma told the bench that the three convicts do not deserve leniency as they killed 13 innocent people and "their act is not against any individual but against the society".
