The officials will learn how to collect crucial evidences from a blast site. At the end of the training, the participants will have to investigate an actual blast scene and identify the perpetrators.

From the Delhi Police, additional DCP (crime) Sanjay Bhatia and inspector Ashok Kumar have been selected.

“This year, we witnessed two blast cases and both are unsolved. In such cases, preservation of crime scene is the most crucial. The three-week training will help the officers investigate blast cases and they can share their experience here,” said a senior police officer, who does not want to be named.

During the training, the officers will learn investigative techniques, crime scene management, material identification methods and evidence collection and analysis. Course topics include human rights, explosives and their effects, hazards and initial response, component recognition, suspect identification, threat analysis, major incident considerations, vehicles, aircraft and suicide bombings.

“After this course, participants will be able to identify various types of explosives and their effects, secure and search a blast scene, identify blast components and signature, preserve crime scene evidence for use at trial and establish command post operations, following a bombing incident,” he added.

Experts say such training under senior officers will help a lot as terrorists are increasingly going high-tech. “ Delhi is always a sensitive place, but many states of our country still don’t have the technology to investigate blast cases,” he said.
