A 22-year-old woman, was found brutally stabbed to death under mysterious circumstances near a field in Morta area on NH-58 on Tuesday evening, police said.

Police also suspect the victim was sexually assaulted before being killed.

The body of the woman, who worked at a nearby iron unit at Muradnagar area of NH-58, was found with deep and multiple injuries, police added.

Police officials, who reached the scene of crime, suspect that the victim may have been subjected to sexual assault before she was murdered by unidentified assailants.

"Her body was found 200 metre away in a field behind a restaurant on NH-58 area of Muradnagar. She was found in a semi-naked condition with multiple injuries inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon. Post-mortem reports will reveal more details,” superintendent of police (SP) Capt MM Baig told the Hindustan Times.

The police have rounded up several people in connection with the incident. One Yogesh Kumar, who worked at the same unit with the victim, has also been rounded up.

"The family suspects that the woman was murdered by Kumar, who is believed to be a friend of the victim. An FIR has also been lodged against him.
