24-yr-old held for extortion attempt

A 24-year-old alleged gangster, who is said to have made an attempt to extort Rs. 50 lakh from the son of a member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) last year, has been arrested, police said on Friday. HT reports.

A 24-year-old alleged gangster, who is said to have made an attempt to extort R50 lakh from the son of a member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) last year, has been arrested, police said on Friday.

Suresh Singh, or Kala, who hailed from Panipat in Haryana, carried a bounty of R50,000 and was nabbed from the Humayunpur roundabout around 10pm on Thursday, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (special cell).

A sophisticated pistol of 7.65 mm bore, two magazines and seven live cartridges were recovered from his possession, DCP Yadav added.

“Suresh has confessed to his involvement as the caller in the sensational case,” the police said.
