The police have detained a 25-year-old man in connection with the rape of a four-year old in north-west Delhi’s Keshav Puram on Friday night.
Deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Vijay Singh said the police had identified the accused but refused to reveal details. The man is learnt to have confessed to his crime.
Sources said that a police team visited the hospital on Monday evening and produced four suspects in front of the victim who identified the accused.
The accused is learnt to be a resident of the same slum where the victim stays with her parents and elder sister. Sources said that the youth, currently unemployed, had reportedly said he had consumed liquor from a shop outside the slum.
At about 5PM, he saw the child playing and lured her with a toffee.
“He took the child near the railway tracks and raped her. He bit her on her face and used a blade to attack her. We are gathering evidence and have been interrogating him since Monday. He had consumed alcohol before assaulting her,” said an officer.
The man helps his father run a tea stall in the area. He was married two months ago. Officers said the man is a regular at the liquor shop and was spotted consuming liquor right outside the shop on the day of the incident.
“Our child identified the accused. We know him for the past one-and-a-half years. He used to buy sweets for children. Little did we know he would turn out to be like this,” her grandfather told HT.
