Thapa jumped on to the track from one platform and tried to get to the other platform of the Uttam Nagar Metro station just as a Noida-bound train from Dwarka was entering the platform at 7.25am, a DMRC spokesperson said. "The train operator applied the emergency brakes but by the time the train stopped, two coaches had entered the platform area," said the spokesperson.

Thapa was pulled out from under the train in a conscious state and was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyayay Hospital. However, he died two hours later, the spokesperson said.
