3 held for selling CGHS medicines

Delhi Police have arrested three persons, including two employees of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), who used to get prescriptions from doctors and siphoned off medicines to sell it in the open market.

The crime branch is now going to question the doctors who had issued prescriptions, which were used to purchase medicines from the CGHS dispensaries.

Police said the arrested trio was part of the racket, which was busted on June 2 and with this, a total of six persons have been apprehended. Police have recovered medicines worth Rs 3 lakh from the arrested persons which takes the total amount of medicines seized from the racket to Rs 43 lakh. The seized medicines were meant for use by CGHS, MCD and ESI hospitals and dispensaries and have their stamps on them.

"Anil Yadav (23), Ravinder Singh, a pharmacist, and Bacha Singh, assistant dresser at Tilak Nagar CGHS dispensary were arrested following investigations after Krishan Gopal (42), Pawan Gupta (34) and Anuj Jain (32) were apprehended last month," said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime).

Ravinder and Bacha Singh have been working at the dispensary for more than three years. Ravinder met Yadav through a common friend in 2009 and he roped in Bacha Singh.

Ravinder and Bacha Singh sold the medicines at 35% of the cost to Yadav who sold it at Bhagirath Place for a profit of another 10%.
