The arrested has been identified as Narender Singh, who tried to kidnap Kunal — a two-and-half-years old son of one Sonu Singh (25). The incident came to light at midnight when Sonu, a labourer by profession, found his son missing from outside his hutment near the Kali Mata Mandir in Mandir Marg. “The family had gone to sleep as usual on Monday night. Around midnight, Sonu woke up to discover that Kunal was missing. While his other two children, Monu and one-month-old Shivam were sleeping with their mother, Kunal could not be seen. He raised an alarm and began to search for him,” said a senior police officer.

Police said their first clue came from one of Sonu’s neighbours who claimed that a man carrying a white shawl and wearing shorts was seen around his hut. “Sonu and some locals then rushed towards the New Delhi railway station fearing the worst, where they fortunately discovered Narender carrying Kunal in his arm and standing in a queue at a ticket counter. He was arrested and a case of kidnapping registered,” the officer added.
