The actual cases may be more than the double this figure, as the number of positive dengue cases reported by private hospitals is much higher than what the municipal corporations are claiming.

Municipal officials argue that most of the private hospitals do not perform the mandatory IgM Capture Elisa test and thus cannot be considered positive as per the government guidelines in this regard. But private hospitals say they are reporting only confirmed cases to the municipal corporations.

Dengue patients are being treated on stretchers because of bed shortages — in both government and private hospitals.

Almost all private hospitals have about 30-40 dengue patients each admitted at the moment. “We have already reported over 100 dengue cases to the civic agency so far this year. Such high number of dengue cases is not surprising for this part of the year,” said a doctor at the Lok Nayak Hospital
