4 hurt in refrigerator blast

In a freak accident, four members of a family, including a one-and-a-half-year-old child, were injured when the compressor of a refrigerator exploded at their Shahadara house in East Delhi on Saturday morning.

Police said around 5:00 am the compressor exploded at the Panchsheel Garden house while the family was sleeping.

“The victims have been identified as Ramesh Kumar (34), his wife Raina (25), two children Jeet (one and half-year-old) and Gungun (4). The compressor of the refrigerator suddenly exploded and injured all of them," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

The resident then immediately called in fire services as well as the police. The victims are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

Police said none of the family members are seriously injured and that they would be discharged soon. No case was registered.
