“The victim, Kehar Singh, was found dead in a room in Chhawla on Saturday night,” said Sharad Aggarwal, deputy commissioner of police (southwest). He was injured on his right leg. There were no injury marks on his upper body. He died due to excessive bleeding,” he added.

Aggarwal said it was strange that the farmer was hit only on his leg with a blunt object. “It is not clear whether the attacker wanted Singh to die or not,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity. The police said they are investigating if family discord or personal enmity was responsible for the murder.

“We are also investigating whether a property dispute was behind the incident,” added the officer.

In another case, two men shot at a property dealer in Najafgarh on Sunday. The victim has been identified as Dilbagh Shokeen. Two persons, whom the police suspect to be villagers who had a row with Shokeen over a property dispute, allegedly opened fire at him.

“Five bullets were fired at his leg,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media. He added that all the bullets in Shokeen’s leg were removed after surgery.
