Police said one of the four accused was in love with a girl and had misbehaved with her on Friday. He also allegedly beat up the girl's boyfriend in Sangam Vihar.

After being beaten up, the girl's friend, Mohsin, returned to Sangam Vihar with accomplices and roughed up the four men. The four, enraged, went to Tigri village, threatened the girl and stabbed her mother Kamla Devi. Their neighbours Prakasho Devi and Jagat Singh have also been killed.

"The accused were identified and arrested on Saturday night. Neeraj is the main culprit while Sanjay, Lucky, and Sandeep are his friends," a senior police officer said.

In the attack, Singh, a former Indian Air Force employee, was killed, while Kamla and Prakasho are being treated at separate hospitals, confirmed the police.

Recalling the incident, the girl said, "They stabbed my mother in the stomach and neck. Hearing her scream, my neighbours, Prakasho and Singh, came to her rescue. The men attacked them as well and fled," said the girl.

A case of murder and attempt to murder were registered at the Neb Sarai police station. Angry over the incident, scores of Tigri village residents on Saturday, staged a protest.
