7 men arrested for robbery posing as cops, I-T officers

The South Delhi police arrested seven people for allegedly committing robberies by impersonating as policemen and sales tax officers in the Capital.

The police also recovered loot worth Rs 12 lakh, along with two police uniforms, arms and a van used for the crime.

The police said they arrested the gang leader Rajesh (48) was arrested, along with accomplices Jagbir (42), Rajender (35), Rafique (30), Mohammed Khalid (22), Rajji Ahmad (19) and receiver of stolen property Bajrangi Yadav (40), from south Delhi's Mahipalpur.

“Six of them were on their way to Masoodpur village looking for a receiver of the stolen materials, when they were caught,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal. He said the robbers used to intercept trucks at night wearing police uniforms.

The robbers would allegedly threaten the driver and sometimes beat them up before decamping with the truck, the police said.

According to the police, the gang targeted a truck on May 22 near Nangloi Metro station. It coming from Rohtak.
