Adopted girl returns to biological parents

A Delhi court has appointed the biological parents of a 15-year-old girl as her guardian; though she was legally adopted by one of her parent’s relative. Guardian judge Sanjay Sharma observed that the child’s biological parents could not have any adverse interest towards their ward.

The court allowed the plea of the Delhi-based couple to appoint them as legal guardians of their biological daughter after the death of her adopted parents earlier this year with the 15-year-old girl, too, wishing to go back to her original parents.
The court appointed Rohini-based Teginder Sharma and his wife Renu Sharma as the legal guardians of their daughter, who was earlier legally adopted by Renu’s sister, late Suman Gaur and her husband, late Ashok Gaur.
The court said, “It would be in the interest and welfare of the child that the petitioners (biological parents) are
appointed as legal guardians in respect of the person and her property.”
The couple told the court that the child was born on June 27, 1996, and they had given her to their relatives in adoption
on February 14, 1997. The couple also said they already have two daughters who are 21 and 23 years of age.
