The tribunal asked these agencies to file fresh affidavits by May 23, when the matter will be heard next. “For effective removal, these agencies will have to first disclose how much debris they have themselves dumped,” said Manoj Misra, on whose petition the tribunal began hearing the case.

In their affidavits, these agencies tried to shirk responsibility regarding the debris dumped over the years. They have been told to remove 90,000 cubic metres of debris - or 10,000 truckloads of waste -- and other wastes dumped on the banks of the Yamuna by May 31.
