In a statement, Agnivesh defended the act of consuming own urine as a cure for bedwetting. He said while for many people the traditional cure may sound abhorring, he had practised it for months on end when in Ambala Central Jail to cure his bed wetting problem.

"I had the problem of bed wetting till an advanced age and the traditional urine therapy had helped reduce it. I read books ... and found this method described as Shivambu or Swamootra Chikitsa (treatment through one's own urine.),” he said.
