In a letter to AIIMS President Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on October 4, head of the department of cardio vascular and thoracic surgery Dr A Sampath Kumar accused Dr AK Bisoi of leaving behind a screw in the chest cavity of a 75-year-old patient while performing a bypass surgery The patient died later.

"The committee finds that at no stage the accidental loss or retrieval of the screw had anything to do with the death of the patient,” the report stated, adding it did not consider it as amounting to medical negligence. It withdrew all charges against the doctor and said the patient died of skin and renal problems leading to multi-organ failure.

Another committe set up by the Union Health Ministry and headed by AIIMS dean Dr RC Deka, has been asked to submit a different report in a week.
