"Access to news and entertainment must be made affordable and universal. To this end, in addition to notifying guidelines for providing Headend in the Sky services, the digitalization of both All India Radio and Doordarshan is on the anvil," she said.

Patil was addressing Parliament on the first day of the Budget session.

She said the upcoming Commonwealth Games will be covered in High Definition format by Doordarshan for the first time. High Definition TV or HDTV refers to video having resolution substantially higher than traditional TV systems.
