Air fares down 15-20%, Indigo joins the club

Gearing up for a possible challenge from AirAsia India, Gurgaon-based low-cost carrier IndiGo announced on Tuesday a considerable drop in fares for tickets booked three months in advance. Other domestic carriers are already offering similar schemes on advance booking of tickets.

IndiGo, which is the largest domestic carrier by passengers carried, is offering fares from as low as Rs 2107 to Rs 4376 from Delhi to various destinations across the country.

As reported by HT on Tuesday, airlines have slashed fares by as much 15-20% owing to sluggish demand and lack of growth for the July-September off-season.

Analysts said fares in July are down by as much as 15%-20% as compared to the previous month. Tickets booked two days in advance on the Delhi-Mumbai sector are available for Rs 5,300, Delhi-Kolkata for Rs 5,700, Delhi-Bangalore for Rs 6,300 and Delhi-Chennai for Rs 6,200.
