Delhi Police are investigating whether officials at the IGI airport are also involved in the emigration racket that surfaced with the arrest of MP Babubhai Katara. Katara was caught taking a woman and a boy to Canada on his wife and son’s passport.

One of the accused Rajinder Kumar Gampa, who had posed as the secretary of Katara, told a city court on Saturday that he used walk around freely in the airport and would even go up to the immigration counters posing as the MP’s secretary. Additional Chief Metropolitan Kamini Lau had said that this was a major security lapse.

The police are investigating whether any official at the airport was a part of the racket. “It could be connivance or negligence on the part of officials at the airport. Involvement of senior officials at the airport cannot be ruled out,” said a senior police officer. “We are exploring all angles and officials at the airport will definitely be interrogated,” said Ranjit Narayan, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch.
