Dwarka lived up to its reputation of an unsafe neighbourhood as a 51-year-old realtor was robbed of his car at gunpoint in a busy market on Monday night. What was perhaps more terrifying for Rajesh Sharma was that the armed men took him on a short ride before letting him go.

Four of the six carjackers were arrested within two hours. At the time of the crime — 11 pm — the entire police force of Dwarka was on night patrol.
HT has regularly carried reports on the rising crime graph in Dwarka, Asia’s largest sub-city, worsened by alleged police laxity. Till April 26, 17 incidents of street crime were reported.
“I had parked on the Sector 12 main road. As I was getting into my Maruti SX4, some armed men got in and pointed a pistol at me. After a certain distance, they threw me out and fled with the car,” said Sharma.
There were four men in the stolen vehicle while the other two left in a Wagon R. The police said they drove to a housing complex in Sector 18 where one of them had a room on rent.
“As soon as the complainant made a PCR call, we got into action. A security guard at the L&T housing complex told us an Sx4 had driven in. We caught them in the car,” said ACP (southwest) RS Krishania.
The police recovered two guns and a knife.
