Army's infantrymen to discuss border threats

Changing security dynamics along Pakistan and China border and the preparation of the Indian Army's infantrymen to meet the threats will be the focus of discussions at the conference of infantry commanders beginning at Mhow from Wednesday.

Changing security dynamics along Pakistan and China border and the preparation of the Indian Army's infantrymen to meet the threats will be the focus of discussions at the conference of infantry commanders beginning at Mhow from Wednesday.

To be chaired by Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, the biennial three-day meet till September 17 would also introspect on the infantry battalions and formation's capabilities, training curriculum, and look at future technologies for infantrymen.

The conference, called by Army's Director General (Infantry) Lt Gen Jasbir Singh, would crystal gaze towards a vision for infantry of the future under which India's on-going Future-Infantry Soldier as a System (F-INSAS) would come up for critical examination.

The commanders of Infantry battalions and formations would debate means to adapt to modernisation, future weaponry and also come up with ideas for operational planning, training and management of assets and personnel.

"The changing geo-strategic environment, threat perception, technological advancements and training aspects would come up for discussion," Army sources said.

Officers of infantry from Army Commands, Operational theatres and training establishments would attend and participate in the debates, sources added.
