He was running his family business of manufacturing parts for DVDs and CD players and plastic moulding till he became an MLA in 1998.

Education: BA (Political Science) from Khalsa College. He was studying law but quit midway.

Political career: In his first year in college in 1986, he became the students’ union president. At 28, he was the youngest
MLA in the Delhi Assembly and at 33 years, he became the youngest minister in the Sheila Dikshit cabinet. “I got the highest votes in the last elections, 77.12 per cent of votes polled in my constituency,” he said. He is the minister of education and tourism.

Family: His wife Sonia is a housewife. They have two sons who study at Sanskriti School. “To keep me away from politics, my parents got me married when I was still at college,” Singh said.

Cars: Wife drives a red Maruti Swift. Family travels in a Toyota Corolla. He uses his official vehicle, a white Ambassador.
