The home ministry on Thursday named AS Gill as the new director general of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and P Mukherjee as the chief of the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D).

Gill, a 1972 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, will replace VK Joshi, the current chief of the world's largest paramilitary force, who retires Feb 28.
Mukherjee is a 1973 batch IPS officer.
Meanwhile RK Bhatia, a 1972 batch IPS officer, presently additional director general of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has been appointed as the director general of the National Disaster Response Force & Civil Defence (NDRF&CD).
