“Waliaji’s reports are satisfactory and doctors have also said he was fine. He will contest the election. We are sure to win this seat,” Singh said.

Walia’s candidature came under clouds after he fell ill a few days ago and had to be admitted at his own nursing home. He consulted the doctors at Apollo Hospital on Tuesday and his reports are fine.

A Congress strongman, Walia was four-time MLA and a minister in Sheila Dikshit cabinet before he lost the 2013 election to AAP’s Vinod Kumar Binny from Laxmi Nagar. He is pitted against BJP’s BB Tyagi this time.

Meanwhile, the Congress has named block president Surendra Prakash Sharma as replacement for Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh from Gandhi Nagar. The party also replaced Rajouri Garden candidate Dyanwanti Chandela, who is also said to be unwell, with her daughter-in-law Meenakshi. Party officials said Dayawanti Chandela had broken her leg.
