The new terminal, which would cater to 60,000 domestic and international passengers everyday, is expected to start before the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Spread over 5 million sq ft, the two tier building is touted to be one of the biggest airport terminals in the world.

The private airport developer Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) has given the contract to manufacture and supply 175,000 m2 of carpets for the terminal to an UK based company — Brintons.

The total carpeted area in the terminal would equal the area of 24 football fields, a DIAL spokesman said.

Keeping Delhi in mind, patterns essential to Indian design have been added.
