‘Aunty, aunty, vote for me’

BJP candidate from New Delhi constituency, Vijay Jolly, decided to woo an unlikely voter on Tuesday — his rival, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Accompanied by his wife Rashmi and sons Kabir and Rishi, Jolly landed up at the Dikshit residence — 3, Motilal Nehru Place — at 9.20 am, albeit with a prior appointment.
“I have come to seek her blessings. It’s my right, after all she’s my Sheila aunty too,” Jolly said with a smile. “I would also request her to vote for me, as she is a voter of this constituency,” he added.
The meeting of the opponents went on for over an hour but the mediapersons gathered outside were not allowed to witness what transpired between them.
As the family emerged after the meeting along with the CM, Dikshit blessed Jolly for the benefit of the media. Dikshit, who looked at a loss for words, refused to comment on the meeting.
“I believe in the politics of affection and respect. Being younger to her, it is my right to seek her blessings for my success,” Jolly said.
Jolly claimed he had apprised the CM of the problems in the New Delhi area during their meeting. “This is the healthy form of democracy, as the opposition is having a dialogue with the ruling party,” he said, adding, “I don’t believe in embarrassing my opponents.”
“I have been a hardcore critic of hers during the last 10 years, and I am confident of putting up a strong fight in this election,” Jolly added as a parting shot.
