Alicia Coutts picked up her fifth gold medal while Leisel Jones won the 10th gold medal of her Commonwealth career after winning the 4x100m medley relay. She equaled Ian Thorpe and Susan O'Neill's record. Coutts has won the 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley and the 4x100m freestyle relay. Australia swimmers Graham Smith in 1978, Susie O'Neill in 1998 and Ian Thorpe in 2002 and Canada's rhythmic gymnast Alexandra Orlando in 2006 all won six.
Backstroke swimmer Emily Seebohm also equaled the record of winning eight medals in a single event, a feat achieved by Australia's Ralph Hutton in 1966 and O'Neill in 1998. South African Roland Schoeman apologised for his supposedly racist comment targeted at one of the supporters whom he had called 'a monkey' on Friday.
