Bad public diplomacy: Rao

Foreign secretary Nirupama Rao has said India would certainly speak to the US embassy regarding the patting down of ambassador Meera Shankar.

"We will certainly be speaking to the US embassy. We are already in touch regarding previous instances but not exactly like this one. We have an ongoing conversation," Rao said.

The incident "wasn't good public diplomacy", the foreign secretary told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on public diplomacy.

"We have also asked our embassy in Washington to give us a detailed report on the incident. We haven't as yet received that, but we will be certainly looking at that
before we take further action."

The CPM on Friday said the American envoy to India should be subjected to security searches on domestic flights here.
