Batra, and Apollo officials ‘questioned’

The Gurgaon Police on Thursday widened the ambit of probe into the Gurgaon kidney racket by going through the medical records of Apollo and Batra hospitals in Delhi.

Police teams from Moradabad also questioned officials of the hospitals to explore possible links with prime accused Dr Amit Kumar.

The Moradabad police was interested in finding out if Dr Amit Kumar had sent clients to the two prestigious hospitals in Delhi for matching and testing, police sources said.

"Our teams had gone to Batra and Apollo hospitals. They questioned doctors and went through medical records. We are also combing other hospitals in NCR to find out if they had any links with in the case," said PK Pahliwal, PRO to Moradabad SSP Prem Prakash.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government - which has a 26 per cent stake in Indraprastha Apollo Hospital - denied any raid on the hospital premises. After getting in touch with the hospital, Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri denied that any raid had taken place. "We are vigilant and I do not think any such incident has taken place," he said.

Officials in the government, however, said some doctors of the hospital might be questioned. "In police investigations, a lot of people are questioned but it does not mean that the person concerned has any role in the case," said a senior official.
