Senior BJP leader V K Malhotra alleged that Government was preparing the ground for privatising the water distribution as it has already handed over responsibility of metering and billing for water consumption to private discom NDPL in some areas.

"Government has given the responsibility of issuing bills to the power discom at a time when people are running from pillar to post complaining about inflated electricity bills," he said.

Malhotra reminded the government that the insolence of private power companies has resulted in a situation of "near anarchy" with the billing system.

"We will not allow Government to privatise the water distribution network. We will resist it," he said, claiming that government had tried to privatised DJB earlier also.

"Last time the Government's move was thwarted by a spirited Opposition but now a new plan has been devised to achieve the same ends," he said.

Malhotra said that according to information received by him, private companies want to only take responsibility of the water delivery and billing aspects of the water distribution.
