"Councillor Madhav Prasad, his driver Manoj and Anil Yadav were arrested for the murder of Jai Prakash Yadav," said Ashok Chand, additional CP (crime and railways).

Yadav was a ticket aspirant from the Sangam Park ward that Prasad is contesting from. According to residents, this was the second time Yadav had been denied a ticket by the BJP.

Police said a clash broke out after Yadav interfered in a meeting called by Prasad at a temple near the railway tracks around 11pm Tuesday.

"The clash between over a dozen people spilled on to the platform. Yadav was stabbed several times and declared dead on being taken to hospital," a police officer said.

Prasad has been sent to judicial custody till April 24. Police also arrested Virender, from Yadav's group, for assaulting Prasad's driver. A hunt is on for his associates Balram and Santosh.
