BJP wants full winter session, says Sushma

The BJP on Sunday conveyed to the government that it did not favour its proposals to either shorten the winter session of Parliament or stagger it in two parts in view of the Gujarat assembly polls in December.

The BJP on Sunday conveyed to the government that it did not favour its proposals to either shorten the winter session of Parliament or stagger it in two parts in view of the Gujarat assembly polls in December.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj told home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde that there was no need to change the usual dates of the session, which normally began from November 21 and lasted till December 21. Shinde is leader of the Lok Sabha.

Parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal had telephoned Swaraj, seeking the BJP’s response on three proposals — a session from November 21 or 26 to December 21 or a shorter session from November 26 to December 7 or a staggered session of one week in November and then in December.

“We are agreeing with the proposal that the winter session should be held from November 21 to December 21,” Swaraj posted on Twitter. “I have conveyed this to home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde...”
