Campaign to rename Chandni Chowk after Tendulkar

Radio station Fever 104 FM has been campaigning for the cause and has announced its gratitude to Delhi Mayor Rajni Abbi for agreeing to the concept. Suman Kumar Gupta, councillor for Chandni Chowk, has decided to propose the renaming of Chandni Chowk as Tendulkar Chowk and the proposal is expected to be placed before the MCD House on January 11.

Commenting on the developments, Rajni Abbi on Tuesday said that the MCD has received representations from hundreds of people to honour Tendulkar but no decision has been taken yet. “A lot of people have been asking for the naming of a Delhi road after Tendulkar. We will definitely look into the matter when the proposal comes up,” Abbi said. Harshad Jain, business head, Fever 104 FM said, “This one is a tribute to all Sachin fans in Delhi. We are thankful to the Delhi Mayor for agreeing to the concept.”

The move has created a rift in the MCD with some councillors pointing out that roads can only be named posthumously.
