Capital chills at 7.2 degrees

A chilly morning greeted Delhiites on Sunday as minimum temperature hovered around seven degrees Celsius for the third consecutive day.

The mercury was at a minimum of 7.2 degrees, up by yesterday's 0.7 degrees, this morning which is one degree below normal around this time of year, the Met Department said in New Delhi.

The season's lowest temperature of 6.4 degrees was recorded on Friday.

"Current meteorological analysis suggests that there will be no significant change in minimum temperature in the next two-three days," a senior Met Department official said.

According to the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), the minimum temperature will hover around eight degrees for the next three days.

The minimum will be around nine degrees, NCMRWF said.

Compared to last December, it is more warmer this time with minimum hovering above five degrees. Last year, many days in December witnessed minimum temperature plummeting below five degrees.

Last year, the coldest day in December was recorded on 29th when mercury dipped to 3.9 degrees. The record for the coldest day for the month was recorded on December 26, 1945 when the minimum temperature was recorded at 1.1 degrees.
