Have you ever had trouble finding your car towed away from a no-parking zone? Delhi Police have devised a way to avoid such situations.

On Tuesday, the traffic police will launch a special helpline (011-23010101) to tell you where the towed vehicle has been taken to — exactly which police station yard or vehicle pit —and the amount of penalty to be paid.

"The service starts from Tuesday morning,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

Over 600 vehicles are towed every day from no-parking areas, mostly from crowded markets and shopping centres. Owners have a tough time tracing their vehicles.

The traffic police also plan to start an SMS service soon. All one has to do is text the vehicle’s registration number to the helpline. The details will be immediately sent back to the owner.
