CBI grills Kushwaha in NRHM scam

The CBI on Sunday grilled former Uttar Pradesh family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam for close to nine hours. He was questioned for the first time in the Rs10000-crore scam.

The CBI on Sunday grilled former Uttar Pradesh family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam for close to nine hours. He was questioned for the first time in the Rs10000-crore scam.

"We have registered one FIR against Kushwaha. Many suspects have alleged that the contracts under the NRHM scheme were awarded on the verbal instructions of Kushwaha. He was questioned about the tender awarding procedure and his role in it," said a source.

So far Kushwaha has been named as accused in only one of eight FIRs filed in the scam. The FIR pertains to the upgradation of 134 hospitals for an amount of Rs 13.4 crore by Construction and Design Services, a unit of UP Jal Nigam.
