CBI has registered a preliminary enquiry in the matter to look into the possible violations of the Official Secrets Act.

According to sources, CBI received a complaint from the then R&AW chief KC Verma a few days before he took premature retirement on Dec 30.

Verma had taken premature retirement to pave way for present chief Sanjiv Tripathi.

According to sources, these leaked documents pertain to objections raised by the R&AW’s finance department with regard to two deals — satellite communication interception equipment and aerial surveillance systems. CBI is investigating the matter from two aspects.

First, the ‘secret’ documents may have been leaked to serve the purpose of certain vendors. Or this ‘leakage’ might be a fall out of a power tussle.

Two R&AW officers are under the CBI scanner.
