The four industries are Sriram Piston and Rings, Marshal Cycles Pvt Ltd, Mascot India Tools and Forgings Pvt Ltd and Kathuria Brothers (leather section). The Regional Pollution Control Board (RPCB) in-charge T.U. Khan and Additional District Magistrate S.K. Srivastava said.

In 2004, RPCB had asked these four units to construct a new borewell. However, the new borewell too became contaminated. A recent test found Chromium levels in underground water to be 2.60 mg/l as against the max permissible limits of .05 mg/l.

"UPPCB officials ordered the crackdown. We have asked them to provide a clean water source and to suggest remedies to the problem," Khan said.
