The children and two adults, one of whose legs was crushed, were waiting to cross the road outside Chinmaya Vidyalaya in the upscale locality on Friday evening.

“The cleaner, Dalip, 21, does not have a driving licence. He lost control of the car and tried to flee after ramming into six people but we arrested him for rash driving and attempt to culpable homicide not amounting to murder,” a police officer said.

The victims were rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre. “The children are out of danger but two of them have fractures.
The right leg of one of the adults, Saaudaan, was crushed,” a doctor at AIIMS said.

Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control and crashed into a pole after hitting the victims less than a kilometre from where he started the car.
The car has been impounded and the owner has been called to provide more details, the police said.
