The resignation of Delhi BJP vice-president Aamir Raza Husain over Narendra Modi's "puppy" remarks today gave Congress a fresh handle to attack the opposition party, as it wondered what stand other Muslim leaders in the BJP would take.

"If Aamir Raza Husain could say/do the right thing wonder why all former socialists who joined BJP quiet? Where do Shahnawazji & Naqviji stand?," Congress leader and minister of information and broadcasting Manish Tewari tweeted this morning.

Tewari was referring to BJP national vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.

In what is being seen as the first fallout within the BJP over Modi's "puppy" remark, Husain, a well-known theatre personality, tendered his resignation yesterday. He quit a day after making anti-Modi remarks on television.

Husain had on Monday told a news channel that Muslims would prefer senior party leader L K Advani or Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj over Modi as the prime ministerial candidate. He had also criticised the puppy and burqa remarks of the Gujarat CM.
