"We do not use sniffer dogs on our martyrs...Congress condemns the letter and spirit of such observations on martyrs. Such insensitivity is alien to our party," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters in New Delhi.
Singhvi said nothing could be more reprehensible than the remark of the Kerala chief minister on the martyr.
"The party has respect for the martyrs and regrets that such a statement was ever made. We demand immediate apology from him," he said.
Achuthanandan had yesterday created a furore by his remark -- "If it had not been (Major) Sandeep's house, not even a dog would have glanced that way"-- after the commando's father refused to meet him.
