Cop sacrifices seven goats to thank God

A government quarter behind the Sarojini Nagar police station turned into a slaughterhouse, thanks to a constable’s efforts to appease God.

The incident was reported late on Thursday night from the police quarters in Sarojini Nagar, which is allotted to the constable. His father is a retired assistant commissioner of police.

“The policeman had got 15 goats for the ritual. By the time we reached his house, he had already sacrificed seven goats,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

Police said one of the neighbours had called the PCR and informed them about the slaughter. Police said members of the constable’s community organised the sacrifice.

“Soon after we received the call, a team was sent to his house. Carcasses were lying around and there was blood all around,” said the officer.

Police said there were around 25 people present at his house and he had organised a feast. “The policeman told us he organised the feast to appease God. One of his wishes had been fulfilled and he was sacrificing the goats for the same,” said H.G.S. Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

The accused policeman was arrested and later released on bail.

Police said they rescued eight goats from the house. “We have rescued the remaining animals and have sent them to an animal pound,” said the officer.

Veterinary officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) shifted the goats to an animal pound near Tis Hazari courts in north Delhi. The officer added that the policeman was given a stern warning before being let off.
