With their arrest, the police claimed to have busted the notorious ‘Kala gang’, which was involved in over 25 cases of vehicle theft.

The arrested persons have been identified as Pushpender aka Kala, 32, the gang leader; Mohammad Shehjad, 33, Shaharat, 25, and Sanjeev Pal, 25. All of them hail from different districts in Uttar Pradesh. Twenty-one stolen vehicles have been recovered from them, the police said.

“The members were caught by a team deployed at a vulnerable point to prevent any untoward incident. In view of the ongoing festive season and threat perception, police teams have been instructed to set up pickets at different locations to prevent incidents of snatching and vehicle theft,” said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).

“The team members were conducting checking of vehicles when they spotted a motorcycle without a number plate. The rider was signaled to stop. The rider, however, tried to speed away, but was caught,” he added.
