Nine days before Jigeesha was murdered, her alleged killers had robbed a 32-year-old man on Rao Tula Ram Marg in the same Santro that was used to abduct, rob and later kill her.

An FIR was registered at the Delhi Cantonment police station where victim Ranjit Kumar, a businessman, had given the registration number of the Santro (HR 18 C 3409) that was used in the murder of Ghosh.

On March 9, around 4.30 am, the gang, allegedly led by car thief Ravi Kapoor, crashed into an autorickshaw on a lonely stretch near Subroto Park, close to where Jigeesha and journalist Soumya Vishwanathan were killed.

Kumar was going to the airport in the autorickshaw to catch a flight to Imphal.

“The accused wanted to rob the autorickshaw’s passenger. They first hit it, picked a fight with the driver and later beat him up. When he fled, they volunteered to drop Kumar,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).

The car took a U-turn from Subroto Park and Kumar was robbed at gun point. They took away Rs 20,000 in cash, a computer and a camera and left him on Rao Tula Ram Marg. He lodged the FIR soon after.

“Kumar came to us and informed us about the incident after he read about the car used in the murder cases of the two women,” the officer added.
