After grilling former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar for 10 days, the Delhi police has finally identified the source of his fake B.Sc certificates, sources said.

The owner of a primary school in Shakurpur was picked up on Friday for questioning by a team from the Hauz Khas police station, led by SHO Satinder Sangwan, on the alleged charges of providing fake certificates to Tomar. The 58-year-old, who happens to be Tomar’s neighbour, was identified as Madan Singh Chauhan.

RS Krishnia, joint commissioner of police (southeast), said, “We picked up Chauhan for questioning in the case. His role is being probed. He has not been placed under arrest.”

Tomar during police interrogation claimed he procured his degree certificates from Chauhan for `6,000. Chauhan was served a notice by the investigating officer asking him to join the investigation.

Senior Delhi police officers said Chauhan is locally known as “Chauhan degree-wala” and probably got this identity because of his business of preparing fake academic certificates for clients in lieu of money.

“We are questioning Chauhan to ascertain his involvement in the entire cheating and forgery case pertaining to forged B.Sc and LLB degree certificates submitted by the AAP MLA in the bar council of Delhi to enroll as an advocate,” a senior investigating officer said.

Although Chauhan has rejected allegations leveled against him, investigators will confront him in front of Tomar to ascertain his role, sources in the police said. Tomar, on the other hand, has been maintaining his claims that he had procured his certificates of Awadh University from Chauhan. Further investigations are on, the officer said.
