“We had carried out a security audit of the area and as the NDMC owns the parking lot we have asked them to install CCTV cameras," said Chhaya Sharma, additional deputy commissioner of police, South Delhi.
Sharma further said there is no mechanism in place currently to keep a check on the vehicles entering the parking lot.
“It is quite a big parking lot and needs to be monitored properly,” Chhaya said.
“If someone plants a bomb in a car and parks it in that lot how will one get to know? The presence of CCTV cameras will keep a check on the vehicles entering the parking lot. We have also asked them to deploy security guards too,” she added.
The NDMC confirmed having received the request.
"We have received a letter from the Delhi Police asking us to install CCTV cameras. A decision in this regard will be taken soon,” a senior NDMC official said.
