Talwar has been in jail ever since her surrender before a Ghaziabad court on April 30.

She had also appeared before a magistrate court after the Supreme Court rejected her review petition seeking to recall an earlier apex court order that upheld her and her dentist husband's summoning to stand trial in the case.

A bench of justice AK Patnaik and justice JS Khehar agreed to hear her bail plea and asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to file its response on her petition after her counsel, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, contended that Nupur had been in jail for over two months.

On the court's query, the counsel added that the case may take over three years to conclude.

"If it is heard at a normal pace, the way trials go on, it may take even up to six years," Rohatgi argued, pleading the court to take a lenient view.
