A Delhi court today dismissed a plea by Congress leader Sajjan Kumar seeking its direction to bring on record certain documents relating to 1984 anti-Sikh riots cases.

Additional Sessions Judge Sunita Gupta rejected the applications filed by former outer Delhi Member of Parliament (MP) and others seeking records relating to the cases pertaining to the riots, which took place in Sultanpuri and Delhi Cantonment areas following the assassination of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.

The court, however, in its order, noted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had offered, during the arguments on the applications, to provide copies of the judgements relating to the riot cases to the accused.

Among the documents sought by the accused are judicial as well as police records of the cases registered at Sultanpuri police station and other places and a copy of the memorandum of action taken on the report by Justice G T Nanavati Commission of inquiry.

The Commission was set up to inquire into the 1984 riots, besides the statements of witnesses.

The court fixed the cases for further proceedings, relating to arguments on charges for April 27, as CBI had filed two chargesheets against Kumar and others.
